February 25th @9:45am in Clark’s Cabin:  John Veneruso on “How does good Texas engineering make REALLY BAD roads”

Texas Roads:  Is Houston's traffic situation so bad that it can't be remedied? Is the increasing growth induced gridlock, fatal crashes, and time spent in traffic destined to continue until we all are confined to a 15 minute walkable area without even sidewalks, bike lanes, horse paths, or decent mass transit to get us out of our residential cages? Perhaps we can sell our cars and become one with a driver-less, autonomous car utopia where we're still trapped in our cars for hours, but are free to consume mass media as hapless passengers? Ever wonder why nearly all retail and commerce stretches like beads along the freeway, forcing us to drive miles further than if it was better mixed in with the sea of residential areas? Why is it so dangerously fatal to be a pedestrian? If we can't drive or afford to drive due to aging, disability, or economic status, how can Houston be changed so that it can continue to be our home?
