The Third Friday discussion group is rescheduled for Feb 10, at 11 am in Classroom #4 of the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land. (13016 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479).
At 11 am we’ll enjoy a presentation by Master Docent Randy Bruner about “Salt.” We’ll learn about salt domes, salt mining, Spindletop, Yucca Mountain, where the US now stores nuclear waste and more. Randy can also answer questions about paleontology — such as what happened to the prehistoric 2-ton armadillos (glyptodons) that once roamed Texas. Or about geology — such as whether you live on top of a salt dome.
After the lecture, Q & A, and discussion we’ll enjoy our sack (or takeout) lunches in the same room. Soft drink vending machines and the museum’s permanent “Salt” exhibit are nearby. Cost is $11 per person and includes all-day admission to all exhibits, including the current special attraction, “Ocean Bound”.
As always, this Third Friday session is open to all Thoreauvians, visitors, and guests. All are welcome, even if you didn’t RSVP earlier to the requested head count.
Hope to see you there!
Reoccurring monthly on the Third Friday.
