Sunday Celebration

“Embracing the Strange” sermon by Catherine Vance, MD Anderson Interfaith Chaplain, and a Master of Divinity student.

In her book “Welcoming the Unwelcome,” Buddhist nun Pema Chodron thinks about how we can interact with and accept people whose beliefs are antithetical to our own. Many of us feel sadness about the divisiveness that is so prevalent in America today; we might also be angry or even fearful about some of the ideas that have gained a big following but are so foreign to the way most Unitarians see the world. How might it be helpful or wise to embrace the different and strange, not only in others, but in ourselves and the Universe at large?

We gather weekly in our sanctuary at 3515 Clayhead Road, Richmond, TX. All are welcome to join us.

During in-person worship, Religious Education is offered for children 5 and over, and a nursery is available.

Our Adult Discussion Group meets before the service at 9:45 in the Clark Cabin and via Zoom.

You are invited to join us for hospitality hour after the service.

Masks are required indoors.

This week, our Community Outreach Collection is SOCKS for the Lamar School District kids in need. Lacy socks, colorful socks, white socks, animal socks – get in touch with your inner child and pick out some socks YOU would love to wear if you were 8 again! Common Threads is the LCISD agency that helps low income kids with the clothing items their families can’t afford. Pick up some cute (or practical, whatever floats your boat) socks and toss them into the basket this Sunday! If you prefer to order online, here’s an Amazon shopping list.

Thoreau services are at 11 am at the Thoreau Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 3515 Clayhead, Richmond.

Our services can also be viewed on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/TUUC.FB
