What’s Your American Dream? (Celebrating 4th of July)
Speaker - Member Betty Johnson
“The American Dream” is a familiar phrase, but it means different things to everyone.
From our founding documents, which author Jim Cullen identifies as the “charter” of the American Dream, to Route 66, the post-war baby boom, master-planned communities, and even hip-hop culture, the American Dream has been woven into the fabric of our lives. We’ll look at the history of this concept, review how the dream has evolved since the founding of this country and discuss how (or if) its relevant today.
Betty Johnson minored in American Studies while studying Physics in college. She loves researching and sharing iconic American cultural concepts with Thoreau in our annual celebration of Independence Day.
