Thoreau’s Third Friday discussion group will next meet Friday, March 17, at 11:15 am (a few minutes later than our usual 11:00 am start time) at the Fort Bend Museum, 410 S. 5th Street, Richmond. TX 77469.
Allison Harrell, who brought Fort Bend history to life for us during our January field trip, will continue on that historical track by presenting “Trains and the Start and Growth of Rosenberg.” We’ll learn what trains passed through that tiny dilapidated old train station some of us pass on Hwy 90 on our way to Clayhead. Backtracking from that she’ll explain:
Where, when and how steam engines developed
Where the first train tracks were laid in Texas — and why those sites were chosen
How those first tracks affected Texas history
And why Rosenberg was built so close to Richmond
As in January, we’ll enjoy the lecture, Q & A, and discussion from classroom seating and then adjourn to the tables behind to enjoy our sack or takeout lunches. Also as before, the museum cannot provide beverages or a microwave. The pop-up exhibit, where the Carrie Nation exhibit was in January, will be Black Cowboys.
As always, this Third Friday session is open to all Thoreauvians, visitors, and guests. All are welcome, even if you didn’t RSVP earlier to the requested head count.
Hope to see you there!
Reoccurring monthly on the Third Friday.
