Adult Enrichment

We’ll discuss chapter 4 of “A Brief History of Equality”, by Thomas Piketty: “The Question of Reparations”. Governments have paid reparations to various groups in the past—including slaveholders deprived of property by emancipation. Is there an approach to reparations that would improve equality of opportunity for descendants of exploited people, everywhere—or anywhere—in the world? What would reparations even look like for survivors of genocide, or for humans and other species who relied on ecosystems that have now been devastated?

This chapter is a full hour, so we’ll need to spit it. We should say right up front that this will be a safe space for expressing personal feelings on an uncomfortable and frequently misunderstood topic. What question(s) should we be asking about reparations?

This is a recurring virtual meeting every Wednesday from noon - 1:30 PM.
